Haulover Inlet Can Be Rough But Have Nothing On This Yacht
Haulover Inlet has recently achieved greater notoriety through the efforts of several camera men and women filming the different boats going through this rough waterway. The giant waves, expensive boats, and beautiful people make for very interesting content,It was created in 1925 to allow boaters out of the bay without having to go all the way to Government Cut (which is south of Miami). But why is the Haulover Inlet dangerous? It features sandbars, rock walls, strong tide currents, and gusty onshore winds that make navigation quite difficuly. Haulover Inlet is a man-made channel completed in 1925 to connect the northern end of Biscayne Bay with the Atlantic Ocean through a narrow point in the sand between the cities of Bal Harbour and Sunny Isles. The area around the inlet is pretty uneventful, but navigating Haulover is an art form, Haulover Inlet is the most dangerous inlet in Florida and yet it has the most boat traffic of any inlet in the United States, The north jetty is 250 feet long and the south jetty is 735 feet long. The inlet entrance channel is 400 feet wide and 14 feet deep, Kayakers start to sink fast at Haulover Inlet. A small boat with multiple occupants sinks after taking a big wave at Haulover Inlet. Small boat capsizes at Haulover Inlet, Known as Haulover, it is located at statute mile 1080 on the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW), and is the only inlet between Miami's Government Cut and Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale. By land, it is north of Bal Harbour and south of Sunny Isles Beach at Florida State Road A1A. Today four inlets connect Palm Beach County to the Atlantic Ocean; from north to south: Jupiter Inlet, Lake Worth (or Palm Beach) Inlet, South Lake Worth (or Boynton) Inlet, and Boca Raton Inlet
