Guernica by Pablo Picasso is an anti war painting with powerful symbolism that has become timeless since its creation in 1937.
This video covers (1) the history surrounding the Guernica painting, which was Picasso's reaction to the horrific 1937 Guernica bombing in the Northern Basque town, and (2) the analysis and symbolism as it relates to the Spanish Civil War and anti war sentiments in general.
Guernica is arguably Picasso's most famous painting and a masterpiece within cubism, surrealism, and all of art history. It can now be viewed in The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía.
