Chest radiotherapy includes radiotherapy to the breast, your chest wall (if you've had surgery to remove your breast) or to your chest itself. This can include radiotherapy to the lungs or to the oesophagus (your food pipe or gullet).
Chest radiotherapy side effects tend to come on gradually as you progress through your treatment and for a few weeks afterwards. Side effects can include difficulty swallowing, feeling or being sick and shortness of breath.
Radiotherapy affects people in different ways, so it's difficult to predict exactly what side effects you will have and how bad they might be. Some people only have mild side effects but for others the side effects can be more severe.
Everyone reacts differently to radiotherapy, so how you feel varies from person to person.
