[2015]
I was going to upload this when I picked it up in July from when G.L.O.S.S. rolled through Tallahassee, but instead I ended up forgetting about it and leaving it on my living room cassette player for 3/4 of a year. The tape seems to be a makeshift "cassingle" release that G.L.O.S.S. used to have some new material for their very wild, helicopter spawning, debut U.S. national tour. The Tallahassee show was a bit of an uncomfortable experience with a lot of strangers and people I'll never see again but it ended up being a really good night and G.L.O.S.S. was as incredible as their reputation had preceded.
G.L.O.S.S. does a great one-two combo and I've noticed both punks and metalcore bros are oddly inspired by their sound, due to a tasteful blending of the d-beat/raw punk aesthetic and the catchiness of some of the more fun hardcore bands from the 2000s, a la Tear It Up. I get a bit of a Totalitär thing from them, too. Sadie Switchblade is an absolutely captivating frontperson both by sheer vocal power and the very relevant lyrical themes.
As anyone who is viewing this video is probably aware of, the 7" for this material, "Trans Day of Revenge", has already been released with better recording quality and includes a few other songs to boot. I am pretty much only uploading this for anyone who may be interested in a more "lo-fi" flavor. I can't even say whether or not these songs were re-recorded for the 7" or if they are literally the same songs simply diminished by the tape medium, but it is always fun for me to hear demos/bootleg versions of songs I already love. I really feel like the deterioration on these songs give them a little more of a punch! Maybe you will feel the same.
