World Cancer Day is a chance to celebrate the progress and improvements that cancer research has made. Pre-pandemic, there was a lot to celebrate in the world of lung cancer with new research spending highs, more life-lengthening treatments and the roll out of lung health checks taking us a step closer to a national lung cancer screening programme.
Then Covid hit. Fewer people are being diagnosed, allowing symptoms to worsen, the disease to spread and the opportunity for curative treatment fade. So, if ever there was a year where we needed to shine the spotlight on cancer, it is this year.
The World Cancer Day, we’re reminding everyone that lung cancer is still here. We’re urging those with symptoms to go to their doctor. We’re supporting those through diagnosis and treatment and we’re funding research into early detection to save more lives.
