On April 11, 2008 Iolani Palace became the first and only museum in the world to launch an audio tour in Hawaiian. Hawaiian language scholar Puakea Nogelmeier, who helped translate the script and is the voice heard on the tour, and his students from Kamakau School, a Hawaiian language immersion school on Oahu, along with several native-speaking kupuna were the first group to experience the tour.
