The penultimate stage of this year’s Cape Epic took place in Wellington.
For the first time in the seven days of the event Mother Nature chose to smile on the weary competitors: some rain early in the day dampened down the excessively dusty conditions of the past few days and added some grip to the many trails which littered Stage 6’s 71km day / 1.500m of altitude.
But Christoph Sauser (SUI) and Jaroslav Kulhavy (CZE) tore through the course with only one team – Kristian Hynek (CZE) and Alban Lakata (AUT) – able to stay with them.
The day ended with a thrilling sprint but Hynek misjudged his line through a corner just before the finish and the Sauser/Kulhavy combination pipped them for their fifth stage win out of six.

Results Stage 6 - MEN:

1st place: Team Investec-Songo-Specialized – Christoph Sauser (SUI) and Jaroslav Kulhavy (CZE)
2nd place: Team Topeak Ergon – Kristian Hynek (CZE) and Alban Lakata (AUT)
3rd place: Team Scott Factory Racing – Philip Buys (RSA) and Matthys Beukes (RSA)

Die Entscheidung über den Tagessieg der vorletzten Etappe fiel erst auf der Ziellinie: Die Gesamtführenden Christoph Sauser (SUI) und Jaroslav Kulhavy (CZE) konnten den spannenden Schlusssprint mit lediglich 0,3 Sekunden vor dem tschechisch-österreichischen Duo Hynek/Lakata für sich entscheiden und feierten somit ihren fünften Etappensieg beim Cape Epic 2015.
Die Etappe mit Start und Ziel in Wellington führte über 71 Kilometer und 1500 Höhenmeter; nach morgendlichen Regenschauern konnten die Fahrer die Singletracks des Welvanpasses letztlich bei strahlendem Sonnenschein nach der strapaziösen vorherigen Etappe sogar ein wenig genießen.
