The Last Word is a herbaceous bomb. If it’s too much for you, try Phil Ward’s riff, the Division Bell. Gin is replaced with smoky mezcal and the Green Chartreuse is replaced with the bitter orange aperitivo, Aperol.
It is said that while trying to come up with the recipe Ward listened to the Pink Floyd album The Division Bell repeatedly, hence the name.
This cocktail is an excellent one to pair with strong tasting foods. Just happened to have an Indian curry this night, and stood up well to the flavor profile. Just a hint of smokiness, a very slight bitterness, the maraschino liqueur sweetening it up nicely, and the lime juice just making it sparkle. A great cocktail using some not-so-obvious ingredients. Nice.
I was a bit spacey when doing this video. Just getting hit with COVID, and clearly with a temperature, as the chilled shaker really had an odd affect on me. If that is the worst that happens, considering the impact it’s had on so many people, then I can not complain.

Cheers, enjoy your Division Bells, and stay healthy.
