How to replace a power steering pump on an E53 2001 BMW X5 4.4i.
The power steering is very sluggish and basically non-existent on the vehicle. At first I try draining the fluid and replacing it but that was unsuccessful so I later move on to replacing the pump with a used one I got from a junkyard.
Unfortunately, even though the pump was working during my test drive--it stopped working shortly thereafter so there will be a follow up to this video where I replace the entire steering rack and completely flush out all the lines to make sure there is zero debris in the system.
But, this video is still an excellent tutorial on how to drain/flush your PS fluid and change the pump on any BMW with the popular 4.4 liter V8 engine.
