This gentleman is a morbidly obese diabetic with venous ulcer and lymphedema issues. The ulcer had been opened for 5 years before he came to see us. We worked with his vascular surgeon to manage the fluid in his legs.
Part of the wound care management was a weekly food log. He lost about 50 pounds with us the first time the wound healed -which was about 6 months ago. He’s back after regaining some of the weight and the wound reopening. But we have him back on track now both with his wound and his weight. He’s lost 30 pounds in one month, just keeping a food diary and cutting down on sodium - no diet pills and just gentle exercise for now. In fact, he was doing so well with his blood pressure and fluid in his legs that his cardiologist recently took him off of one of the diuretics that he was on.
A lot of times, what it takes to heal these wounds is making the lifestyle changes and our clinic provides the weekly support to heal the “whole person” not just the “hole in the person”.
