One of the most popular instrumental groups in the late 1920s & early 1930s was 'The International Novelty Quartet' who made a great many recordings for Zonophone (HMV's budget label). Despite this, virtually nothing is known about the musicians who made up the group, but it is believed it was made up of players from different popular bands of the day. One thing is certain though, there’s more than four musicians playing on the recordings! Anyway, here they are with an instrumental version of Knocked 'Em In The Old Kent Road (Wot Cher!) recorded in 1931. (And by pure chance, the record dealer's address stamped on the record catalogue in the video is.... you guessed it... Old Kent Road!) The record is playing on a Columbia R201 portable gramophone.
