A sense of desperation can be detected among job applicants as they consult with human resource managers. They closely check recruiting announcements to see where they might be wanted, and attend company presentations in droves. Ninety two foreign companies with operations in Korea participated in this job fair. With Korean companies cutting their hiring plans for the second half of the year, more and more job seekers are turning to foreign businesses.
[Soundbite] Kim Ui-seop(Job Seeker) : "The primary reason I am here is to find work overseas. Some of these companies offer remunerations on par with domestic conglomerates. Above all, they offer an opportunity to build a career."
Unlike domestic corporations, which hire employees en masse during hiring seasons, foreign companies hire new personnel whenever the need arises. Many of the firms are relatively unknown but record solid performance. Foreign companies also hire people based mostly on their work abilities. Experts say that job-seekers can seize promising opportunities by collecting information on their potential work responsibilities and the companies they want to work for, and by visiting the booths at the job fair with their resume at hand for a job interview. With employment becoming more and more difficult in Korea, the job fair for foreign companies has drawn more attention than ever.
