How's it going, everyone It's Ethan here at etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the SeaSucker Monkey Bars Roof Rack on our 2016 Honda Pilot. So these are a great option in the event that you wanna transport some of your larger items and accessories on top of your roof, but you might have a rental or you just have a situation where you don't necessarily want to have a roof rack system that makes contact with your car, these are a great option, they just suction on top of the car onto your naked roof and they have a pretty strong hold. On the subject of that strength, these are capable of supporting a weight capacity of up to 150 pounds. Now, these are our 48 inch version. As you can see, it's a relatively sleek and compact look, they do also come in a 60 inch version as well, which will just give you a little bit more overhang and a little bit more room on there to spread out your accessories.

If you're like me, you might be a little bit skeptical of how strong a suction cup style roof rack is actually going to be, but in our experience, they've actually been incredibly strong and resilient. So the way that you actually install them, we're just going to pull this release to actually remove the suction. Basically, to do the opposite, all you do is push this button. As you see, that orange indicator pops out when you release, so you just push this until that orange indicator is gone, and that's how you know they're on there securely. As you can see, they're real easy to put on and take off, especially the 48 inch version that you see here.

If you want to, you just unscrew it, break it in half, and store it in your car. Additionally, we just wanted to point out that the crossbars themselves are round, so that's just something you're gonna wanna keep in mind as far as the accessories that you're gonna put on there, making sure that however they are stored, probably the clamps, will actually work with a round bar and not tilt too badly. Now that we have them installed, we can go ahead and get you guys some measurements, starting with how much height the crossbar's gonna be adding to your roof. So the lowest point of the crossbar is 3 3/4 inches, which is just important to know how much clearance you're gonna get for bindings, accessories, clamps, things like that to make sure that they're not making contact with your roof. And to see how much height the crossbar actually adds, it's five inches, so not too bad, considering the suction cup design don't actually go too high, so that's kinda nice.

Continuing on with those measurements, just to see how far we're actually hanging over, and the way we have it set up is four inches. So again, nice for that condensed look, the 60 inch version is available as well again in case you need more room. As far as our crossbar spread, we're coming in at 28 inches, which we found is a pretty good distance for most accessories, and in the case of our Pilot, we also have the moonroof, which is still visible, which is just a nice feature. One thing to note about this roof rack system is that because of how easy it is to set up and remove, it is also pretty likely that somebody could just come up and do it and steal them from the top of your vehicle. Now, they do have a trunk or window cable lock option that they sell separately, so if you want, you can get that and have a little bit more peace of mind.

Overall though, I do like the SeaSucker Monkey Bar Roof Rack System, I do like the ease of install, and honestly, with how easy they are to put on, they still do support a lot of weight. Things I don't necessarily love are the fact that they don't lock and the round bars, but in the event that you have a rental car or you just need a roof rack that you can take on, put on, and take off easily, I think this is a great fit for the 2016 Honda Pilot.
