Every year, thousands of women fall victim to "acid attacks", where flesh-burning liquid is thrown on to them. India is no exception, and the government there has passed a law restricting the sale of acid and imposing harsher sentences on those convicted of such crimes. Yet victims and lobby groups - who pressured the authorities to make these changes - say powerful acids are still readily available, leaving vulnerable women still at risk of being disfigured.
