CubeSats are miniature satellites, or nanosatellites, that can be developed at a fraction of the cost of typical satellites, making space research cheaper and more accessible.

Standard CubeSats measure 10 cm x 10 cm x 10 cm and can weigh up to 1.33 kg per unit. They may be ejected from the International Space Station or deployed from other spacecraft. NASA’s CubeSat Launch Initiative covers the cost of sending a CubeSat to space in exchange for a report on its findings, while companies like @Nanoracks offer commercial satellite deployment services that are carried out through the @ISS

This video shows CubeSats developed by students from the Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and University of Michigan being deployed from the ISS.
