Uterus will have to removed for various reason but these days we are doing this through laparoscopy only. Why laparoscopy we are removing through small 5 mm keyholes, why a laparoscopy for uterus removal , it is because during the procedure the blood loss is very les. The patient gets operated through 5 mm scars in comparison to conventional ones where there are 10 cm cuts given. So the recovery is faster, the pain is much lesser. For the surgeon, the expertise and the skill required is much more and the equipment require d is different but from a patient perspective, it will remain a shorter hospital stay, we are all shifting to a 1 day stay after laparoscopic removal or even day care surgeries for uterus removal where the patient gets back the same day evening or the next day morning. So shorter hospital stay, less blood loss, faster recovery. In that way it becomes very cost effective to the patient. Os in this laparoscopic removal the scars made are very small. You can look at the picture. This is how we operate in laparoscopy. We are looking into the monitor were we out the instruments into a 5 mm hole and we look into the monitor and then we operate. Coming to the scars with laparoscopy they are all small scars. This is at the end of the procedure, we put water proof bandages and send the patient the same day. After a week if you look for a week, the scars are hardly there. Because of the various advantages offered, laparoscopy is the state of the art for removal of the uterus.
