What makes a nation? Heroes who fight for it, families who love it, and leaders who serve it. Confronting war, terror, and cruelty from the darkest catalogue of human crime, the Ukrainian people have responded with defiance, hope, and courage that have called an awestruck world to action.
The Atlantic Council stands with these heroes—mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, young and old, living and lost—today and in the days to come. Along with the rest of the world we join in their proud refrain: Slava Ukrayini! Heroyam Slava! “Glory to Ukraine! Glory to its heroes!”
We mourn those who have fallen and honor those bearing the battle in defense of a country whose people only want peace, stability, and the right to decide their future. Russia’s war is targeting not only Ukraine’s civilians and sovereignty, but also the freedoms and values that the Atlantic Council was established to defend. This is a defining moment of history, and we in the Atlantic Council community will do our part to shape a better future and deliver on our founding purpose.
