Relative chords are group of chords that sound good together.

Each step(note) of the major scale has a chord that is the same letter as that step. The 1, 4, and 5 steps are major. The 2, 3, and 6 steps are minor. The 7th degree is diminished(I'll explain it in my next video).

In the key of C major, the relative major chords are C, F, and G (1, 4, and 5). The relative minor chords are Dm, Em, and Am (2, 3 and 6).

Likewise in every scale the 1, 4 and 5th degrees will be majors and 2, 3 and 6 will be minors.

We simply don't play some random chords for a song; every song has a root scale and from that scale we find relative chords with which we play the song.

There is no point in memorising chords for every single song. Try to understand this concept and you can play any song on your own with the help of this concept.
