Saturday 10th June would see the London Victoria to Portsmouth Steam Dreams Excursion travel on a rare route, as 61306 Mayflower graced the metals of the Sutton & Mole Valley line.
The train would travel via Mitcham Junction, Leatherhead & Effingham Junction to reach Guildford, where it would then take the direct route to Portsmouth. The return would travel via the usual route to Basingstoke before returning to Paddington.
This isn't the first time Steam Dreams have run steam on this line, however it is the first time Locomotive Services Limited have operated along it. Even more interestingly, Steam Dreams normally travel this way as an excuse to pickup passengers at Cheam station. This time however it was to run non-stop, and we see the train at this very location, where Mayflower, hauling a perfect rake of blood & cuastard mark 1's, takes it steady, 'hot' on the tail of a service train.
