Fatehpur Sikri was a dream city that was established by Emperor Akbar. He commissioned to build several elegant monuments and palaces such as Jodha Mahal, Birbal Mahal, Diwan-i-Aam, Diwan-i-Kha, Anup Talao, Panch Mahal, Buland Darwaza, Sheikh Salim Chishti Tomb, Ibadat Khana, Jami Masjid, etc. All the monuments were built with red sandstone with the use of white marble for decoration.
After Akbar left this city, it was left abandoned. Though later, a few times, it was used by other Mughal rulers. It was even used by the British. Today, Fatehpur Sikri is a UNESCO World Heritage Monument and one of the top places to visit in Agra.
