Vistiting Meteora Greece, one of the largest monasteries group architecture and learn its history with locals, and enjoy the rock formation view.
Meteora was discovered around 9th centuries for its unique rock formation from estimated 50,000 years ago. The monks discovered Meteora and believed it would make them closer to god and started building monasteries on the super challenging landscape. In total there are 24 monasteries here and 6 remained in operation. It also served a place for monks and civilians to escape when Turkey invaded Greece. The greek orthodox chruch was able to be preserved under Turkish ruling.
