How To Repair My Heat Stressed Dormant Lawn? How to fix my lawn?
If Mother Nature has slacked off with providing rain and you also have not provided any water, your lawn is probably brown! Is my lawn dormant?
More then likely your lawn is sleeping, it is in Dormancy, trying to save it self from destruction.
You should still be watering a dormant lawn at least once a week, about 1/2 inch of water per week. If you don't, your lawn could stress more and even die, get thinner, and weeds will move in!
Do not fertilize a dormant lawn!
You should try and prevent your lawn from going dormant if you can. Give your lawn the water it needs, in extreme heat, I would use 1 inch of water per week, normal times would be more like 1/2 inch per week. If you see some dark green or gray spots, hit those extra either my hand or with a sprinkler.
It will take a lot of water to assure the lawn that its safe to come out of dormancy, and again, the way you convince it is to provide plenty of water for the lawn. Once it realizes its safe, it will start to green relatively quick.
Once it has restored with your help. Be sure to stay on your watering program, if it doesn't rain, you will have to provide the water.
