The Barcoe Studio approached us with a challenge. That being could they, by using different microphones, minimise the amount of unwanted sound being picked up by a vocal mic? Never to be a company to refuse a challenge, we engaged Sean and his team in a conversation about different mic pick up patterns and specifically super-cardioid microphones. Although our conversation centered around how much of a difference a super cardioid mic can make to both feed-back rejection and unwanted ‘bleed’ on a live stage, Sean decided he would like to try this as an option in the live room of the studio. Us being Sennheiser we jumped on the idea and asked if he would compare a few different options, he agreed so we sent him an E-845, an E-945 and our brand new MD-445. This video is the result of how the comparison went. It basically shows the same singer, band and song being sung through the 3 different mics. The listener can then make up their own mind as to which mic both sounded best and achieved the desired result of minimising the amount of ‘bleed’ coming through the vocalists mic.
