ગુજરાતની ધર્મપ્રેમી જનતાને સુપ્રસિદ્ધ સંત સાહિત્યકાર શ્રી યોગેશ્વરજીનો પરિચય આપવાનો ન હોય. સો કરતા વધુ ગ્રંથોનું સર્જન કરનાર શ્રી યોગેશ્વરજીનું અમર સર્જન એટલે એમના દ્વારા થયેલ શ્રીમદ્ ભગવદ્ ગીતાનો ગુજરાતી પદ્યાનુવાદ જે સરળ ગીતા નામે વિશ્વ પ્રસિદ્ધ છે. ૧૯૬૦માં સૌપ્રથમ પ્રકાશિત થયેલ સરળ ગીતાની અત્યાર સુધી અગણિત આવૃત્તિઓ પ્રસિદ્ધ થઈ ચુકી છે. જાણીતા સ્વર અને સંગીતકાર આશિત દેસાઈએ એને 'સરળ ગીતા' આલ્બમમાં સ્વરબદ્ધ કરી છે. શ્રી યોગેશ્વરજીના જન્મ શતાબ્દિ વર્ષમાં એમના અમર સર્જનોને લોકભોગ્ય બનાવવાના ભાગરૂપે સરળ ગીતાના પંદરમાં અધ્યાયને આ રીતે વિડીયોના માધ્યમે પ્રસ્તુત કરતા અમને આનંદ થાય એ સ્વાભાવિક છે. ભાવિકો એનો અધિક ને અધિક લાભ ઊઠાવશે એવી અમને આશા છે.

SARAL GITA : Poetic rendering of Bhagavad Gita in Gujarati by Shri Yogeshwarji

On the battlefield of Kurukshetra, Lord Krishna gave an inspiring message to Arjuna, which became known as Bhagvad Gita, the song celestial. The 700 verses rendered by Lord Krishna are considered as quintessence of Hinduism and reflects the wisdom of Upanishads. Bhagavad Gita is part of epic Mahabharata and is contained in Bhishma Parva, chapter 23 to 40.

When Arjuna saw his revered teachers, beloved friends and close relatives on enemy side, he was overtaken by grief and despair. As a result, he chose to lay down his arms and sought counsel from his charioteer and friend, Krishna. In his unique and mesmerizing style, Krishna answered Arjun's array of questions covering sin, slander and siblings to death, duty, desire, duality and divinity. Arjuna was convinced that death on the battlefield was that merely of physical frame and not of the inner immortal soul. The conversation between Krishna and Arjuna threw light on many important aspects of Hinduism such as life and death, karma, devotion, jnana, yoga, supreme reality and duality.

Apart from guidelines for ascetics to march forward on the spiritual path, Gita has plenty to offer to each of us in our day-to-day life. Though Gita's message was delivered centuries ago, it is equally rejuvenating today. Message of Bhagavad Gita has crossed boundaries of cast, creed, religion and nationality. It has been translated in many leading languages of the world.

Gujarati, considered by many as 'poor language of rich people' was blessed by Shri Yogeshwarji with more than hundred books covering various forms of literature. Yogeshwarji wrote authoritative treatise on Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads, Brahma Sutra, Srimad Bhagavat, Patanjali's Yog Darshan, Ramayan and Mahabharata in Gujarati.

Saral Gita - Poetic rendering of Bhagavad-Gita was written by Shri Yogeshwarji in 1953 and was first published in 1960. Thereafter due to popular demand, it has been reprinted many times. 'Saral Gita' audio cassette is also available in the melodious voice of Ashit & Hema Desai. As a part of birth centenary celebration of Shri Yogeshwarji, we are happy to present Chapter 15 (Purushottam Yog) here. We hope that you will like it.
