Charles Spurgeon once said, “It is no novelty, then, I am preaching; no new doctrine. I love to proclaim these strong old doctrines that are called by nickname Calvinism, but which are truly and verily the revealed truth of God as it is in Christ Jesus.”
Calvinism is often rejected because people demand that they “must be involved” in their salvation. They cannot resign to the fact that God was the cause of not only their repentance but also their very choice and faith. Some may say, “What about our free will?” Or “Doesn’t this make us robots?” No, God controlling salvation does not make us robots, it simply makes Him God. He restores us (heart and soul) to our original purpose—to glorify God. We cannot get upset at God for sovereignly returning us to a spiritual state that we cannot produce on our own. For this reason, we can say, “All glory be to Christ.” For if we had any involvement in our redemption we must change that to “Most of the glory be to Christ and a little to me for making the right decision.”
