When I was in Greece I ate the best greek salad I ever had.
Greek Salads are very simple salads and only have a few ingredients,
This is why it's so important that you use the best possible ingredients you can get your hands on. Now I don't expect you to try and find produce shipped in from Greece, But you should be looking to get the freshest locally sourced produce you can find in your area or from your own backyard if possible. Making a greek salad in the summer is going to be miles better than a greek salad made in the winter due to the produce being its best when they're in season.
How to Make An Authentic Greek Salad
2 Roma Tomatoes
1 green Pepper
1/2 Cucumber
1/4 Small Red Onion
Small Block OF Feta
1-2 Tbsp Vinegar
1/4 cup Olive Oil
Sprinkle Of Salt and Oregano
Kalamata Olives
So let's start with cutting up 2 Roma tomatoes in bite-size pieces
then we are going to take half a cucumber and peel it to remove the skin.
cut it in half and cut it into bite-size pieces as well.
now let's place both the tomatoes and the cucumber into a bowl before we cut any more veggies,,
add in a pinch of salt and 1 tbsp of vinegar. and let it sit for 10 min while we prepare the rest of the salad
Doing this allows the juices of the cucumber and tomato to release and start creating our dressing.
Now while that's resting take a green pepper and cut down the side from top to bottom like so and then cut into strips and cut them in half and place them in the bowl.
Take a quarter of a small red onion and cut it into thin slices
Break up the slices and add to a bowl
let the salad rest for a few more mins and add in 1 tsp of oregano them star mixing everything together
Scoop out your salad and place into a bowl and top with kalamata olive
it has to be kalamata olives.
Drizzle the salad with the best olive oil you can buy as this is a big part of your flavor.
top with a big block of feta cheese, This feta cheese is barrel feta that comes from Greece and if you can get your hands on some I highly recommend it. again use the best feta you can get your hands on.
sprinkle with some more oregano and serve with some crusty grilled bread to soak up all the juices at the end of your salad which I think is one of the best parts!
