The Columbia Gorge is one of the most spectacular places in Oregon, and world renowned for its immense scenic beauty. Lesser known, however, is how much of that spectacular beauty is the result of repeated dramatic floods created by the collapse of an ice dam blocking a lake half the size of Lake Michigan in western Montana 15,000-13,000 years ago. Next time you're there, remember this history, and wander in wonder. :)
