Can hypothyroidism or low thyroid function lead to belly fat? Absolutely, but it’s not the most common type of weight gain that thyroid patients experience. Because hypothyroidism reduces your entire metabolism, most thyroid patients experience widespread fat dispersed throughout their entire body. This fat is typically not condensed into one isolated place like the belly. Having said that, there are many different patterns of weight gain that thyroid patients suffer from, including belly fat, so what gives? Hypothyroidism can lead to belly fat because of its interaction with insulin and with cortisol. Low thyroid function increases cortisol levels and increases your risk of developing insulin resistance and both of these conditions are well known to cause visceral fat or belly fat. If you are a thyroid patient suffering from fat in your abdomen then make sure to check out these two hormones. Yes, you’ll need to address your thyroid but you will also need to address these other hormones as well. #thyroid #hypothyroidism #weightloss #thyroidweightgain #bellyfat
