Demonizer is a super light-weight (only 20 MB) indie shmup that seems to not sacrifice any element of the experience for how small it is. This is about as detailed, fresh, and fun as shmups get. I have quite a bit of experience in the genre, not like one-credit clearing super hard games type of experience, but a lot in that I have played tons of them and been around the block. Demonizer does things in such a fun and whimsical way, I was having a blast with it.
Starting off on the game's version of Hard, the first couple of stages really ease you into things before showing it's hand, and it's mechanics, to you. While the game doesn't sport much in the way of any movement or bullet gimmicks, it does have a progression gimmick and the way that it interacts with your damage potential and how you approach combat is really unique. I found it super cool to see all the different effects and bonuses you get when you're doing well, and it's super punishing when you run out of steam and start burning lives.
The stages and art-style look gorgeous for, as I said, such a light-weight game. It reminds me of Final Fantasy 6, with mechs and magic ablaze, it really has great designs for this genre. I can't really give this game enough praise, I think it might be the single best game that Hands-Off has received thus far, and I really hope people check it out!
