We'll discuss concepts including minor ii V Is (2 5 1s), dominant7b9 chords (7b9), the minor pentatonic chord scale and Barry Harris's Dominant Diminished scale and using borrowed diminished notes. I also discuss what to listen for in your favourite players to improve your comping, and where to focus when you are comping yourself. Remember it has to be melodically interesting, rhythmically interesting, and the chord voicings have to be practical! Choose voicings melody down rather than voicing up!
