The regulating MOSFET for an automotive airbag IC needs to be able to handle a current proportional to the number of squibs in the system, whilst also regulating their supply voltage long enough to allow the airbags to activate. This means a highly efficient product is vital. The choice has traditionally been limited to older generation silicon technology housed in large legacy wire-bond DPAK packages.
As automotive vehicles become more complex and PCB space shrinks, the devices inside must follow suit. Join John Feaster as he addresses the specialized needs of airbag applications and how Nexperia have designed MOSFETs with these needs in mind.
