Finally! I made it to the abandoned Max Clayton Mine in Poverty Gulch! This was a silver mine that got started in the 1870s and was a fairly big producer of silver ore. A very small amount of copper was mined here, too. Mining operations shut down shortly after the start of the 20th century.
I joined forces with Nick from @Miner49er1 for this underground adventure in the Max Clayton Mine. The entrance to this abandoned mine was one of the more dangerous ones I have seen with overhead timbers in the portico that were severely sagging and near the breaking point from the tremendous weight of the rocks above them. Once safely inside the mine, Nick and I discovered large stopes both above and below the main haulage tunnel. It was quite a fascinating mine with impressive workings!
