After the tragic landslide that killed 116 people, Koshe landfill in Addis Abba is safer. Managed by UN-Habitat, the dumpsite rehabilitation project used the ‘Fukuoka Method’ to repair the collapsed area and prevented further erosion and landslides in the surrounding settlements. The Fukuoka Method is a low-cost waste management system that accelerates decomposition and reduces methane gas production.
