The 1985 Bulawayo 3 Hour Endurance race was held at the Breedon Everard Raceway in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. As the flag dropped for the rolling start the heavens opened and rain lashed the track for the first hour. Hampered by the atrocious conditions the faster slick-shod cars fell back and the nimble Ford Anglia of Richard Smith and Mannie De Villiers took the lead they were never to lose on lap 3. Smith had the windscreen wipers burn out during the latter part of the rainstorm and De Villiers had the exhaust pipe break and then very nearly ran out of fuel on the last lap, but the Harare pair still finished well ahead of the second placed Datsun of Bulawayo's Tony Lilburn and Peter Sissons.
