YAKUWIXUMA is a 23-year-old Wauja student at the Piyulaga Indigenous State School of Basic Education, located in the Piyulaga village, in the Xingu Indigenous Territory (TIX). In his video, produced in partnership with Professor Piratá, Yakakumalu Waurá compares the current state of the river with the river in the past. She highlights the smaller amount of water foot – a plant used to produce the traditional salt of the Xingu – and of fish – one of the main foods of the Upper Xingu peoples. Yakakumalu appeals to world leaders to prioritize the indigenous agenda.
