Abortions are now banned in Arizona after the Arizona Supreme Court upheld a 160 year old law. The 1864 law made all abortion illegal except those to save a woman’s life. The law was passed before Arizona was even a state. It also criminalizes abortion by making it a felony with two to five years in prison for anyone who performs or helps a woman obtain one. In 2022, Arizona passed a law that banned abortion after 15 weeks - but the Court has ruled that the 160 year old law takes precedent. This law was passed during the Civil War, before women could vote, and before Penicillin was discovered.
