Berkut is a Russian snowmobile manufactured by the Nizhny Novgorod Transport and Technological Machinery Plant.
The model is designed to monitor the state of power lines and communications, main pipelines, to patrol various objects, as well as hunting and outdoor activities. "Berkut" provide good stability when driving on snow of any density and depth, while maintaining the comfortable conditions of a passenger car.
It is a car with a two-seater heated cab, a lockable trunk in the front and a cargo platform in the back. Chassis - two steel skis with curved shanks and two caterpillar trucks. The skis are mounted on telescopic racks with springs and hydraulic shock absorbers that rotate in bronze bushings of the suspension base. The ski, the rack with the bushing and the spring, when turning, rotate relative to the fixed stop.
Rubber-cord caterpillars 500 mm wide, reinforced with fiberglass rods. The carburetor engine is mounted longitudinally in the rear of the body, turned forward with the flywheel. The gearbox is five-speed. From it, the torque is transmitted through a cardan shaft with an elastic coupling and a transmission brake mechanism to an inter-side gearbox with a differential mechanism, axle shafts and drive sprockets.
The curb weight of the car is 1100 kg. Gross weight 1500 kg.
Berkut can tow a trailer (sled) weighing up to 300 kg.
Maximum speed - 60 km/h.
