An Atlanta man was carjacked at a south Fulton County gas station which nearby residents said has been plagued with crime.
Tre'quan Guinyard, 20, said a man shoved a gun in his back when he walked into the Chevron Station on Roosevelt Highway around 8 p.m. Sunday night.
“He didn’t say anything he just put the gun to my back and went into my pocket and snatched my keys,” Guinyard said.
Guinyard said his instincts kicked in and he chased the robber to his 2016 Toyota Camry, but the crook took off along with the driver of a Chrysler 200 who had dropped the gunman off.
“I only had the car for a month. That's a brand new car. That’s my way to get back and forth to work and see my daughter,” Guinyard, who is new father of a 3-month-old baby girl, lamented.
Ironically, residents in the south Fulton County community protested the same store just this past Saturday, where two men have already died.
Fulton County Police Officer Aaron Blount was gunned down in the parking lot back in 2003 and just last month, Kenneth Oglesby was shot and killed while he was pumping gas. His wife came out Saturday to support the boycott.
“If security had been in place my husband may still be alive. I want to prevent this from happening to other families,” said Robyn Mcdonald.
Guinyard's Camry was a lifeline for his entire family. He used it to get back and forth to work. He is now working two jobs to pay for the car.
His mother told FOX 5 News, the theft has devastated their family.
“Now that somebody decided they wanted to take, we are back to crawling again and we had just started to walk. He’s young in a role he shouldn’t have to be. The man of the house who has an income and a vehicle,” Carita Nelson said with tears in her eyes.
Fulton County police are working the carjacking and have no leads at this time.
