This is a real hardware recording save for the Super FX GSU2, which was powered by an SD2SNES (FXPak) flash cart.
I captured with composite from an NTSC original revision SNES (eg. not a 1-CHIP), and the intermediary for handling the signal was a Koryuu transcoder. So in terms of capture, what you're largely seeing here is how a Koryuu treats the video signal.
Due to my capture device having some disappointing limitations when dealing with "240p" video that comes out of the SNES, I also fed the Koryuu into an XRGB-Mini Framemeister. This results in a small bit of extra noise over some flat shades (and Star Fox 2 features flat shades prominently), but seeing how this is composite, I figure it's probably a barely noticeable increase. Some day I'll step up to some OSSC device and this will improve.
It may not be to everybody's taste, but most scenes in this game will have some dithering applied, so I think there's a case to be made for composite video. I figure given this game's originally unreleased status, very few people would even have the equipment to put up a decent recording, so I decided to.
Also should be noted that the Super FX emulation provided by my flash cart may not have been a 100% accurate representation to what this game would have performed like had it been released with the same GSU2 revision as, say, Doom or Yoshi's Island, but it should be "in the ballpark". (I set it to "Normal" speed in the options, firmware v1.10.3)
I didn't realize I had omitted the intro until the run was complete. That was stupid of me. I tried to record and stitch it together, but it proved to be too cumbersome for a video that will probably never see even 1,000 views lol.
As for the run itself, these drops were STUPID. I got so insanely lucky, I felt. I'm a little more used to drop and item spawn rates from the old August '95 prototype, so I'm not sure if this final version possibly has tweaked rates in code? In any case imo having health drops heal 2 units (instead of 1) was a mistake. Fiyu/May are nerfed to the ground in this version of the game and yet the low health reared its head like a couple of times in this run lol. I didn't really need Falco at any point.
