At the end of a carnival celebration in the Szentsimon pensionerss club we asked a few of the singers to stay so we could record a few more songs. It was late, but they obliged. We gave them a list, and without the need to practice or learn any of the tunes or lyrics they sang the following three songs:

The words:
"Wheat, wheat, what a beautiful field of wheat
Bowing over the main road of Szentsimon
A brown-haired girl is harvesting it with her sickle
While her sweetheart stacks it crosswise
What is Szentsimon to me
If she for whom my heart aches isn't there
I'll look to the fields of another village
Thats where my true love will be

In the meadow, the field in Szentsimon
I lost my pocket knife
After my knife, my wedding ring
That's what I regret, not my old lover.

There are two roads to Szentsimon
How I love to talk with my rose
In winter and summer there's rosemary in her window
Oh how many times I've been soaked and frozen under it.
Mother dear, let me go to the ball
Without a headscarf, in a pink dress
Even my pink dress is a suit of mourning for me
I feel like an orphan, and my sweetheart's left me too.

The singers have known these songs since childhood, when on Sunday afternoons the young people would sing them in groups as they promenaded along the main street of the village.

A farsangi összejövetel végén, megkértünk néhány énekest, hogy maradjanak mert szerettünk volna egy pár dalt felvenni. Bár már igen későre járt, mégis maradtak. Összeállítottuk a listát és mindenféle gyakorlás betanulás nélkül elénekelték a következő három dalt:

„Búza búza de szép tábla búza,
Ráhajlik a simonyi nagy? útra,
Barna kislány sarlóval aratja,
Babájával keresztbe rakatja"
„Mit ér nékem a simonyi határ,
Ha nincs benne, kiért a szívem fáj,
Más falusi határ felé nézek,
Ott van akit igazán szeretek"

„Réten réten, sej a simonyi réten,
Elvesztettem a zsebrevaló késem,
Késem után a karikagyűrűmet (galambom)
Azt sajnálom, nem a régi szeretőmet."

„Szentsimonyba két úton kell bemenni,
De szeretnék a rózsámmal beszélni,
Télen nyáron rozmaringos az ablaka,
Jajj de sokat áztam-fáztam alatta."
„Édesanyám eresszen el a bálba,
Kötő nélkül a rózsaszín ruhába,
Gyász már nékem a rózsaszín ruhám is,
Árva vagyok elhagyott a babám is"

Ezeket a nótákat gyermekkoruk óta ismerik, régi vasárnap délutánokon a fiatalok csoportokba verődve énekelték a főutcán.
