The ‘60s was a period of transformation here in Glasgow, and we’re focusing on one pivotal year exactly 60 years ago.
In 1962, many of the city’s ‘homes in the sky’ were in development - while families in tenement buildings were dealing with cramped conditions. Before long, many of them would move to their shiny new flats.
The way people moved about the city was changing too, as crowds gathered to wave farewell to the last of the city’s trams. In September, over 200,00 people lined the streets as 20 different tramcars from various eras made their way round the procession route.
