Miami, Florida. Pop singer Pink has announced that at her shows in South Florida this week, she will give away 2,000 banned books.

The performer is collaborating on the giveaway with Books & Books, a Florida-based bookseller, and the literacy and free speech organization PEN America.

The singer took to Instagram to share her enthusiasm and devotion for literature and to provide an explanation for her actions.

"Books have held a special joy for me from the time I was a child, and that's why I am unwilling to stand by and watch while books are banned by schools," Pink stated in a statement.

The singer made the announcement for the first time on Sunday during an Instagram live featuring Gorman and PEN America CEO Suzanne Nossel.

Florida school districts were responsible for over 40% of all book restrictions in the United States, according to PEN American representatives.

According to the organization, The group said 33 school districts in Florida have accounted for 1,406 book ban cases.
