Of course the shipyard is long gone from this Fife coastal town, once a popular holiday resort.
This ground once played host to Celtic in a Scottish Cup tie back in season 1938/39. The Glasgow club irritated their hosts somewhat by choosing to change in a nearby hotel rather than at Kirkton Park, but the attendance of around 3,000 were subsequently treated to an enthralling tie.
Celtic three times took the lead, and on each occasion were pegged back almost immediately; the score remaining at 3-3 until the hour mark. Around this point the part-timers ran out of stamina, and the visitors eventually sent their supporters weaving back west with an 8-3 win.
Burntisland Shipyard FC still compete in the Scottish FA Cup.
