South Korea and Japan have agreed to hold their incumbent state leaders' first bilateral summit talks next week.
According to Japanese broadcaster NHK, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and South Korean President Park Geun-Hye will hold their summit on November 2 in Seoul.
If materialized, the talks will be the first one-on-one talks between the two countries' leaders since Park took office in February 2013.
The talks will take place one day after a trilateral summit meeting to be joined by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and set for Sunday in Seoul.
Relations between Seoul and Tokyo are at odds over historical and territorial disputes, involving the forced Korean sex slaves for the Japanese military during World War Two and Japan's claim to Korea's easternmost islets of Dokdo.
The summit between the two heads of state have drawn much attention from the international community over whether Park and Abe will be able to find ways to resolve such thorny issues and improve bilateral relations.
