What to Expect in the Second Session of the 130th Legislature

The First Regular Session of the 130th Maine Legislature adjourned in early July, but that doesn’t mean the work is finished. Several unresolved issues are now carry-over bills to be dealt with during the Second Regular Session which convenes in January 2022. A number of these more than 300 carry-overs represent considerable challenges for Maine’s business community.
Furthermore, new issues have arisen in the form of “emergency” bill proposals submitted for the Second Regular Session of the 130th Legislature; 154 new titles have been accepted by the Legislative Council for submission beginning this January, giving us a total close to 500 bills to deal with over the roughly four-month legislative session. Clearly, we are in for another busy session.
