The Maasai Mara Wildlife Conservancies Association (MMWCA) brought together key stakeholders to discuss the impacts of COVID 19 on the Mara ecosystem and the livelihoods of the community members through a webinar.
The aim was to inform and update all stakeholders and interest groups on state of community wildlife conservancies, impacts of COVID 19 crisis and past, present and future strategies to build resilience from risk.
The webinar addressed various challenges that are currently being faced in the Mara Ecosystem and tackle pertinent issues that require immediate action through collaborative approaches across the landscape as well as delve into critical questions of what sustainability will mean for the Mara Conservancies post the COVID-19 challenges.
The main agenda of the webinar was to discuss:
a) The state of conservancies in Mara
b) The effects of COVID-19 on Mara Conservancies.
c) The management approaches of Conservancies During the COVID-19 Crisis
d) Conservation Tourism in the Mara During the COVID-19 Crisis.
A total of three panelists were invited to the webinar: Daniel Sopia, the CEO of Maasai Mara Wildlife Conservancies Association; Francis Nkoitoi, the Chairman of MMWCA’s Conservancies Council and Greg Monson, Treasurer and board member of MMWCA Executive Committee. The moderator was Judy Kepher-Gona, Director and Senior Consultant of Sustainable Travel & Tourism Agenda.
