To have an effective response to an oil spill requires competent personnel working to a well-developed plan that has been adequately resourced and regularly exercised. The aim of this module is to show crew how to effectively deal with an oil spill and ensure that it does not result in a pollution incident. As well as considering the ways oil spills occur during cargo operations or when bunkering, this module shows how an oil spill is contained on board and then cleaned up. It also gives guidance on how crewmembers can protect themselves from the toxic effects of spilled oil.
