This is a song from Australia's pioneering days.
Set in the shearing sheds, it tells the story of a gun shearer...one of the best...who was known as "Flash Jack".
There have been many recordings over the years...and, this one by 1901 first appeared on their 1978 LP "An Old Fashioned Country Way Of Singing".
It was dusted off in 1982 and included on the Howie Brothers four track EP called "The Dog On The Fiftieth Anniversary", which celebrated the 50th birthday of the Dog On The Tucker Box, 5 miles from Gundagai.
The EP was released by Country Man Records, cat. # CM-836.
I have uploaded all four tracks to YouTube, taken from the original EP.
