All UN Member states are included plus. all fully sovereign states. The list also includes THE WIDER DEFINITION OF COUNTRIES and thus includes all autonomous regions, republics, island states and territories and those that which are neither sovereign states, dependent territories, or part of other states in free association and dependencies named countries in their own constitution. And as an extra, atolls with local flags have been included too, however only flag that have wide local usage are consider. There will always be flag of cities, town and some rock in the ocean, but that is not realistic to all add. So before you comment make sure to consider that. hahaha. All feedback is welcome though, but getting every island included is not a goal. But every used flag should be in the video, so if I did miss something, let me know. For this reason USA (Hawaii) is included.
So shortly only official islands flags are included and some ubofficial too, if they have WIDE usage or appreciation amongst LOCALS (not vexilologists)
Exclusions
* Regular states within countries or provinces, districts, areas, and regular incorporated islands, even if they have (unofficial) flags like those of basically all countries in the Pacific, so Australia, Chile, Peru, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Tuvalu, amongst many others) do not count.
* Antarctica, no individual claims have been added separately, even though some have flags, and some don’t. There is no full-time regular habitation (other than the research station) and the emblem "flag" is actually not an official flag. Lastly, the Antarctica Emoji on smartphones is fictive and has no official status, just like any other flags on Antarctica you might think of.
*Capitals and cities of interest (Canberra, Wellington).
* Condominiums and border exclaves are excluded
* Ethnic group flags are included, but only when their flags are official on a national level and are also Pacific, so no Chilean tribal groups in South America or Peru, unless their flag is directly assigned to a pacific territory as the official regional flag or that dependency (for example Rapa Nui (Easter Island).
* Micronations without diplomatic recognition
* Self-declared groups and rebels
* Variant flags are not included
* Only one government flag per country is accepted. Governments in exile are not included unless they are recognized by at least one UN member.
Extra comments
* Australia, Willis Island, part of the Coral island territory and has a special status and is inhabited by a few people, however there is no officially adopted flag, nor is there any local flag used). Tasmania the island of the South East coast is just a regular province without special status. Lastly, the Torres Strait Islander flag is an ethnic flag to represent the people not the islands and the same for other aboriginal flags.
* Fiji: Rotuma, whilst being a special territory, there is no official flag, the 1987 flag is unofficial and controversial
* Indonesia. The Papua flags are replaced by the locally used West Papua Flag even though this flag is seen as controversial by many not living on the island, the other flags are rarely to be seen.
* Japan Ogasawara Village, which is a group of islands located in the Pacific, even though its culture is NOT Micronesian
* Micronesia (FSM), Chuuk is currently considered a state, just like the other 3 island collections), but some of the locals do have an independence wish
* USA, Hawaii (the Hawaiians island are just part of the US under the state of Hawaii, without a direct border to the mainland, nor special status, but definitely considered to be Polynesian). Because of it sheer population size it is included in this specific video.
If you found an island that I forgot, please drop it in the comments. One note m: only a few unofficial atoll flags of the US territories are included The ones included are unofficial but at least locally used. The rest seem to have no usage other then Flag enthusiasts and are NOT officially adapted.
