Two Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams sent by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to support operations arrived in Adana to assist with relief efforts following earthquakes that affected 10 provinces with Kahramanmaraş as the center. The teams were transported by two C-17 Globemaster III aircraft of the US Air Force, carrying 159 USAR personnel, 12 military working dogs and approximately 77 tons of special equipment, and landed at Incirlik Air Base. The teams from Los Angeles and Fairfax, Virginia were welcomed by US Ambassador to Ankara Jeff Flake and his wife Cheryl Flake. The Ambassador thanked the teams for their prompt deployment to help Turkey, a friend and ally of the US. The 39th Wing Commander, Colonel Calvin Powell, stated that the US Air Force brought the USAID Disaster Response Intervention Teams from the east and west coasts of the US to Incirlik Air Base to participate in the international effort to help the Turkish people. The 728th Air Mobility Squadron at Incirlik will soon initiate the teams' work in Adiyaman. The teams will coordinate their efforts with the government of Turkey and other international partners. The Disaster Response Intervention Teams will carry out search and rescue operations in the areas most affected by the earthquake while working to identify other priority humanitarian needs in close coordination with Turkish authorities.
